This is part of a series of posts to answer questions you might have about our school. The last post explained our schedule. Now, learn about the class levels at IEI.
How many levels of classes does IEI offer?
We have six levels, from beginner to high advanced. Most students who make a good TOEFL score and enter an American university study with us at Level 6.
How does IEI choose my level?
When you come to IEI, we will give you placement tests in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar. Our teachers score your tests, and the academic director uses your scores to assign your class levels. You might have different levels for different classes. For example, a student might be in Grammar 3, Conversation 4, Writing 4, Listening 4, and Reading 3.
Can I change my level if I am not satisfied with it?
We ask that new students attend their assigned classes for a couple of days to see what the classes are like. If a class seems to difficult or too easy, talk to your teacher about it. You can take another test if you need to be in a higher level. All level changes must be made by the fifth day of the term.
Will I go up a level every term?
Grammar, conversation, and writing classes have final exams at the end of the term. Most students who work hard and practice their English move to the next level at the end of the term. Sometimes a student needs to repeat a class. We don’t want to move you into a higher level if you are not ready for it.
