Are you a sports fan? Whether you are a casual spectator or follow every game and statistic, IEI’s hometown of Nashville, Tennessee has a pro team for you to root for! Join your classmates to enjoy a game and cheer for one of these local teams:
If you’ve been downtown, no doubt you’ve noticed Nissan Stadium towering over the Cumberland River. This is the home of the Tennessee Titans, Music City’s football team since 1998. Attending a game is a great way to spend a fall afternoon or evening, and you can watch the Titans take on some of the NFL’s greatest stars.
Another familiar sight downtown on Broadway is Bridgestone Arena, where you can experience the excitement of a pro hockey match with the Nashville Predators. Last season, the Predators were second in their division and made it to the Stanley Cup playoffs. The team’s mascot, a saber-toothed cat, was inspired by a skeleton of the prehistoric beast discovered in downtown Nashville in 1971.
The Nashville Sounds are our minor league professional baseball team, a team that develops players for Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics. They play at the brand-new First Tennessee Park, where a giant guitar-shaped scoreboard reflects the musical heritage of Nashville. There’s no sports experience more American than enjoying a hotdog or a bag of roasted peanuts while cheering on your local baseball team!
Nashville’s newest sports team, the Nashville Football Club played its first season in 2014. A part of the National Premier Soccer League, the club is amateur but functions as a training and development league for professional men’s soccer leagues. Nashville FC plays at Vanderbilt Stadium, also the home of Vanderbilt University’s football team.
